Children of God are challenged to avoid idol worship. No one is allowed to carve an image to represent God, and no one must worship a carved image. The scripture emphasized,
“Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising. Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man (Jesus Christ) whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead” (Acts 17:29-31).
Lesson:
Everyone on earth is required to serve God and relate with him through faith in Jesus Christ. We are warned not to serve a carved image in place of God! Meanwhile, it absolutely makes no sense for anyone to attempt to represent God for a man-made image! God forbids any carved image that is made to represent him. It is written, “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth” (Exodus 20:4).
However, true worship to the living God must be done in the (Holy) Spirit without the use of physical interference or medium; just as written, “ But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23-24).
Prayer:
Dear God, I know that you are real and you are alive forever; therefore, I am determined to serve with faith without seeking any medium. Enable me to avoid anything that can represent idol worship. Empower me through your Holy Spirit to serve you truthfully, and to your satisfaction. Grant me the grace to remain loyal to you from today and forever! For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
