God considered Israelites’ rebellious acts as a serious crime, and he promised to make them suffer the dire consequences if they refuse to repent. God spoke through Jeremiah,
“‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “Cursed is the man who does not obey the words of this covenant which I commanded your fathers in the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and do according to all that I command you; so shall you be My people and I will be your God,’ that I may establish the oath which I have sworn to your fathers, to give them ‘a land flowing with milk and honey,’ as it is this day.”’ (Jeremiah 11:3-5).
Lesson:
God has fundamental rules which can not be bent. The rules are fundamental but simple. God affirmed that we must stay away from sin. We must love him and also love our neighbors. If we obey him, Jehovah will bless us. He will ensure that his blessings materialize in our lives so that other people can be challenged to serve him also.
Prayer:
Dear God, please give me the grace to duly follow your instructions. Give me the grace to love you and my neighbors. Let your blessing overflow my life so that unbelievers can be motivated to serve you also. Please do these, and many more. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
