The scripture encouraged Christians to focus on the eternal joy that is awaiting them in heaven. We must focus on Jesus Christ and not be carried away with any earthly simulating activity that is temporal. It is written,
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:1-3).
Our present earth is nothing but a market full of distracting activities; believers must be careful not to be trapped by them! We Christians must not lose the sense of spiritual understanding to adequately deal with this world. We must be in the spirit to resist the devil and all his temptations. Also, we must mortify our flesh to resist sins. The scripture encouraged us to take proactive steps towards holiness as written in Colossians 3:5 “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
In addition, the scripture emphasized the need for moral values and heavenly worthy activities as mentioned in Colossians 3:12-14 “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”
Dear God, I understand that Christianity involves committed activities than becoming a mere nominal Christian. You require more sacrifices from me than lip service; In fact, my faith will not be measured based on the number of bibles I have or the amounts of religious activities I perform. You required a committed heart with a contrite spirit. Therefore, I am ready to give you what you required! I am ready to live a committed life unto you. I will follow the scripture and walk in holiness. Please empower me with your Holy Spirit to meet your expectations, so that I can qualify for your kingdom. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
