The common-sense rule that states “Charity begin at home” applies to all Christians. The scripture stated,
“But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (1 Timothy 5:8).
Lesson:
Indeed, charity begins at home! We Christians are required to be responsible for our immediate family before we should attempt to extend the same sense of responsibility to the outside world. A good Christian must be a reasonable and responsible father, mother, husband, wife, son, or daughter. Better sermons are preached through our family – How we take care of them and lead them into serving God. No Christian should neglect his/her family in the name of religion! The responsibility of being a good Christian must start from home, and then be extended to the outside world. Let us learn from Jesus: He took care of Mary (his earthly mother) to the point of his death. He was also a good example for his siblings – which made his skeptical brothers (James and Jude) eventually turn to become Christians and gospel ministers. Therefore, since Jesus Christ remains our perfect example, all Christians must endeavor to take up their responsibilities in their respective family.
Prayer:
Dear God, please help me to be a responsible Christian who adequately takes care of his/ her family. Help me to be your true ambassador to my family! Let my words and activities be seasoned with grace to motivate them into serving you! Also, please empower me to extend the same love to my friends and neighbors, and to the outside world so that your name can be glorified always. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
