Jesus Christ raised a dead man back to life, and he handed him over to his mother, who thought her only life hope was dashed. The scripture reported the incident,
“And when He (Jesus) came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother” (Luke 7:12-15).
Lesson:
Jesus Christ had a prime mission of preaching the good news of God’s kingdom while on earth. He traveled both land and sea to achieve his goal. However, the Son of God was not only passionate about preaching the kingdom of God, but he also had compassion for everyone around him. Jesus was always outside, meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of people. For example, he miraculously fed more than five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fishes when he realized they were hungry (Luke 9:16). He also raised a dead man to life, having seen the anguish of his bereaved mother (Luke 7:12-15). We (Christians) should practice the same principle of Jesus by demonstrating compassion for the people around us. To complement our gospel evangelistic efforts, we must endeavor to feed the poor, cover the naked, and visit the sick. Our efforts must also include praying for people who may be suffering from diverse trials and temptations. Once we are compassionate towards others, the light of the gospel will spread around us and beyond – and many people will be influenced to come into the knowledge of Jesus Christ and be saved.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus Christ, please help me to have compassion for other people. Give me the strength and loving heart to positively influence people into serving you by showing true love! Let your grace and virtue of goodness flow around me to aid the light of your gospel to keep shining. Please enable me with the strength to represent you well on earth so that I can be acceptable to your kingdom. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.
