David and his followers lost their family and possessions to foreign invaders, and they lamented bitterly. No one knew the next thing to do, except David! He consulted God for directions, and God helped him. The scripture reported,
“So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” (1 Samuel 30:3-8).
Lesson:
God still talks, and he will direct his people who prioritize seeking his directions over any matter. People who call on God will never be ashamed, and their footsteps would be far from a failure. Therefore, all people are encouraged to seek God and daily ask him for directions so that they can prosper – After all, the scripture has emphasized that God orders the steps of righteous ones! (Psalm 37:23).
Prayer:
Dear God, please enable me with grace to seek your face over all matters so that I can prosper. Let me follow your instructions when you lead. Do not let me allow situations of life to overwhelm me to the extent that I will forget to cry unto you for help. Let me consult you over all matters, and let me prosper in your name. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
