Paul warned Christians at Corinth to be careful of teachings that lack basis in the scripture.
Paul explained, “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!” (2 Corinthians 11:3-4).
Lesson on Warning Against False Teachings
Every child of God must be careful not to be deceived with false teachings.
We are all required to evaluate any teaching that we receive against the scripture.
A sermon, teaching, prophecy, or vision that can not be justified with the Bible must not be entertained, no matter how beautiful it may sound.
Any religion activity that fail to point our attentions to God must be considered inappropriate, and it should be rejected outrightly.
Meanwhile, it is the responsibility of every Christian to seek the true word of God.
Significant efforts must be taken to know the truth, since the Creator will not exonerate anyone for being naïve and ignorant. We must seek the truth, learn the truth, and apply God’s truth to our lives.
All truth about God that we must learn and apply are already available in the Bible.
Prayer Against False Teachings
Dear God, please enable me with the grace to live in the truth of your words always.
Do not let me get carried away with teachings that lack Bible justifications.
Give me the wisdom to differentiate between deceptive teachings and the true gospel.
Give me the strength to walk uprightly with you always, so that I can qualify for your heavenly kingdom.
For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
