Caleb trusted God in the wilderness and got rewarded some years after. He got his pay-day for the remarkable confidence that he demonstrated when others failed. Moses had sent twelve people to spy Canaan, only Caleb and Joshua returned with some good news; others brought back some negative reports and incited confusion in the camp of Israelites. Those ten spies compared themselves with grasshoppers and argued that they were inadequate to possess the Promised Land; however, Caleb and Joshua firmly declared that God was able to help them possess the land, which he had promised them (Numbers 14:24).
Caleb who demonstrated remarkable faith as a spy for his people did not stop the practice. He continued to live in faith throughout his life. In fact, at age 85 years, Caleb walked up to Joshua to demand a land that was filled with the giants – A feat that many young people could not attempt. Caleb asked for the land of giants as an inheritance. He approached Joshua and stated, “I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart. Nevertheless, my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God. So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.” And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. And the name of Hebron formerly was Kirjath Arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim). Then the land had rest from war” (Joshua 14:7-15).
God requires his children to consistently demonstrate faith in him so that he can bless them. Anyone who satisfies this demand will not be put to shame under whatever condition! Indeed, Jehovah will appreciate whoever adopts the principle of maintaining a persistent faith in him. No matter how terrible a situation may appear for the person, he (or she) will always have the upper hand and match to victory.
Christians can apply their faith in any given situation. That is, no situation should be considered as too big or too small for the need of a faith exercise. The need to apply faith may relate to a health condition, marriage situation, financial situation, business engagement, and/or any other.
Anyone who makes it a practice to exercise a steady faith in God will have victory in all ramifications of his or her life. Come rain come shine, the person will have a testimony and have every reason to praise the name of God.
Dear God, please give me the ability to demonstrate a resolute faith in you at all times. Help me to apply faith to whatever I do so that I can experience your unlimited signs and wonder in every area of my life. Please let my faith be strong as a rock in any given situation. During a difficult moment, help me to be able to confess: “My God whom I serve is well and able to deliver me; he shall supply all my needs according to his reaches in glory through Christ Jesus!”
Please earn me great testimony as I make a significant effort to demonstrate my faith in you! Give me every reason to testify to your goodness in the assembly of your people. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen!
