Jesus Christ taught his disciples not to be self-sufficient; they must appreciate God for their resources and invest the resources towards heaven. Christ narrated a story to buttress his teaching and said, “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God” (Luke 12:16-21).
Lesson:
Anyone who mainly relies on earthly resources will reap vanity in the long run. That is, a person whose investment is only reserved on earth will reap emptiness on the Lord’s day of judgment. Anyone who expects his resources to last eternally must invest in God’s kingdom. Meanwhile, any effort to be termed a “heavenly investment” must not point towards “Self.” It must point towards God and bring him glory.
Who is the person that invests in heaven? A Christian who cares and prays for other people; a Christian who preaches and leads people to Christ, and a Christian who provides for the needy people in God’s name. (Other examples apply.)
All children of God are called to represent Christ well on earth. We must make our best efforts towards populating the kingdom of God – Which would be considered as heavenly investments! God will reward every Christian who prosper his kingdom. He will award him (or her) an incorruptible crown of glory.
Prayer:
Dear God, please give me the grace to invest my resources towards your kingdom. Do not let me be obsessed with the cares of the world and lose my portion in your presence! As I live here on earth and engage in my businesses, help me to be conscious of my spiritual journey, and stay focus. Empower me by the Holy Spirit to propagate your gospel; pray for other people, and help those who are in need. Let the Holy Spirit guide me into all righteousness so that I can remain worthy of heaven and be rewarded! For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
