May 31 – Complacent Christians Have Limited Success

Daily Bible Life

Some Israelites were dissatisfied with their portion of inheritance at the Promised Land; Joshua asked the people to apply common sense to their complaints. He asked the grumblers to summon the courage and displace more Canaanites to gain more possession since God has already promised them the land. Bible reported some Israelites’ behaviors, “Then the children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given us only one lot and one share to inherit, since we are a great people, inasmuch as the Lord has blessed us until now?” So Joshua answered them, “If you are a great people, then go up to the forest country and clear a place for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and the giants, since the mountains of Ephraim are too confined for you.” But the children of Joseph said, “The mountain country is not enough for us; and all the Canaanites who dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both those who are of Beth Shean and its towns and those who are of the Valley of Jezreel.” And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—saying, “You are a great people and have great power; you shall not have only one lot, but the mountain country shall be yours. Although it is wooded, you shall cut it down, and its farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots and are strong.” (Joshua 17:14-18).

Lesson:

People ought to be appreciative of God’s benefits in their lives. Believers also ought to understand that we have the responsibility of making the best effort to make the blessings of God fully manifest in our lives. That is, a Christian should not fold hands in idleness and expects the blessings of God to multiply in his or her life. God does not support laziness; he won’t bless the lazy people!

No Christian should fold hands in complacency and expects God’s blessings to come on a platter of gold. We all have the responsibility to appropriately act to make every passive blessing become an active blessing. Again, we must strive to improve our potentials and make any crude resources becomes a finished product.

A Christian who makes an effort to improve his (or her) gift will see it turns to a refined gold! As he strives on making the necessary improvements, God will multiply his grace on his life.

Prayer:

Dear God, please help me to make the best of my gifts. Help me to effectively utilize my resources so that your grace can fully materialize in my life. Do not let me be complacent in idleness; help me to be industrious. Empower me by the Holy Spirit to do the right thing at all times! As I make an effort to be the best person that you have designed my life for, please shower your grace on my life and help me to be an embodiment of success and testimony to the glory of your name. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
