July 18 – Christians To Love Both Friends and Enemies?

Daily Bible Life

Christians cannot form an alliance with the people of the world, but we must not hate them either. God requires his children to love other people under whatever circumstance. Believers must emulate God who expressed his love for the sinful world by sending his only Son Jesus Christ to die for them (to secure their salvation). Believers must love everyone as the scripture stated, “Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also” (Hebrews 13:1-3).

Lesson:

Christians are Children of God; we must love other people and act like Christ who loves everyone equally. He died for all people to secure their eternal salvation. (Therefore, whosoever confesses him as Lord will be saved).

Believers must not only express God’s love to others through prayers and preaching the gospel. Our efforts must also incorporate providing welfare assistance to those who are in need. That is, we must complement our spiritual efforts with physical activities that can practically benefit people’s lives!

The call for Christians to love everyone equally and treat them with respect may sometimes be challenging, especially when operating under a hostile atmosphere. However, Christians can still have the stamina to meet the standard of God through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. That is, Holy Spirit can enable us with the exceptional ability to love our friends as well as our enemies.

Christians must rely on the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to love those who spitefully deal with us. The Spirit of God will give us the strength needed to truly love people in all ramifications. Also, Christians can derive motivation from the Bible to declare, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me!”

Prayer:

Dear God, I understand that you required your children to love everyone irrespective of their status and under whatever circumstance. Please give me the grace and strength to do so. Let the Holy Spirit empower me to be your true ambassador at all times. Please make me a source of inspiration for other people to confess their faith in Jesus Christ and be saved! For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
