The scriptures warned Christians to beware of false prophets and false teachers who manipulate people for their selfish ambitions. Both the deceptive leaders and their followers will pay for their actions on God’s day of judgment. It is written,
“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber” (2 Peter 2:1-3).”
Lesson:
Christians are to be watchful of practices and teachings that are contradictory to the bible. We must use the bible as our measuring standard to judge between good and evil. We must base our judgment on the biblical principles and nothing more! If a teaching, prophecy, and/or any other spiritual activity does not comply with the Bible, we must reject it. As God’s children, we must be firm with the truth and ensure that our activities comply with the bible. Every Christian must personally study his/her bible to know what God expects from him/her. It is everyone’s responsibility to develop a personal relationship with God and grow in his grace. Yes, we may need mentors/teachers for guidance, but the Bible must be considered as the final authority. God will honor anyone who practices true Christianity and remains consistent with his word.
Prayer:
Dear God, please help me to be watchful and not to fall in the traps of false teachers. Let me only entertain teachings that are consistent with your word. Let the Bible be my measuring standard to judge between good and evil; let me reject activities that lack bases in your word. Help me to be firm with the truth, so that I can remain rapturable and meet you in heaven on the last day. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.
