For the longest time, the Israelites continued to live in sin despite God’s punishments inflicted on them in the foreign lands. They provoked God by partaking in idol worship, disobedience, and several other vices. God was not too pleased and promised to adequately compensate his disobedient children. According to the Bible, ‘‘As I live’’ says the Lord God, “surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, I will rule over you. I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out. And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will plead my case with you face to face. Just as I pleaded my case with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will plead my case with you,”. He goes on to say, “I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant; I will purge the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against Me; I will bring them out of the country where they dwell, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord” (Ezekiel 20:33-38).
Lesson:
God is smarter than all human beings, and we cannot manipulate him to achieve our goals. Also, there are no alternatives to holiness; we cannot stand on the fence to please God. If anyone claims to love God, he or she must abandon sinful practices, and faithfully serve God. As humans, we must not forget that acts of manipulations may work with men, but they cannot work with God. Therefore, we must all be honest with God in all interactions with him.
Prayer:
Dear God, please help me not to play dirty tricks with you. Help me to be factual in my interactions with you. Give me the grace to humble myself and apologize for my sins. Help me to exercise true repentance so that I can prosper on earth and in heaven. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.
