God inspired a gentile king to sponsor the reconstruction of his Holy Temple. Despite an idolatry background that King Cyrus of Persia had, God used him for his own purpose. Touched by God, King Cyrus encouraged captive Jews in his empire to return to their homeland, and repair God’s temple at Jerusalem. King Cyrus also, mandated his citizens to provide material and financial supports for the Jews. The scripture reported, “Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth the Lord God of heaven has given me. And He has commanded me to build Him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is among you of all His people? May his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the Lord God of Israel (He is God), which is in Jerusalem. And whoever is left in any place where he dwells, let the men of his place help him with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, besides the freewill offerings for the house of God which is in Jerusalem” (Ezra 1:1-4).
Lesson:
God has the divine ability to use anyone for the purpose of glorifying himself. Jehovah can use anyone to bless his children as well. The Creator can use both kings and servants alike to meet his agenda. Jehovah has no restrictions; he will use any available vessel for his own purpose. Therefore, children of God should be assured in his. We must be confident that God is able to fulfill all his plans for our lives. As humans, we may have some limitations, but, we must always be mindful of the fact that God has no limitations. He will do whatever is necessary to meet his mandates in our lives.
Prayer:
Dear God, I strongly believe that you have the power to do all things. There are no limitations to your power! Therefore, I ask that you give me a heart that trusts you at all times. Please give me the strength to cast my complete trust in you. Let my faith bear fruits so that I can prosper every day of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my request. Amen.
