Jesus Christ encouraged people to prioritize their services to God above their personal interests. People who are preoccupied with the cares of the world risk losing their benefits in heaven. Jesus supported his preaching with an illustration of a rich man, who revoked an invitation he initially extended to his friends due to their worldly cares. Jesus said,
“The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding, and they were not willing to come. Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’ But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests” (Matthew 22:1-9).
Lesson:
God expects his people to take all matters related to his kingdom seriously. He wants people to put him first in their hearts and serve him well. God wants us to first care about him before we care for ourselves and for anything else. He prefers that we have confidence and believe that he can take care of our businesses.
The Creator promised to bless us if we give one hundred percent attention to him and his cause.
Jehovah will not honor people who prioritize the cares of the world above him. Unfortunately, such people will find it difficult to gain a lot of benefits from God. They may also, find it impossible to enter the kingdom of God on the last day!
Therefore, it is important that all souls on earth prioritize their services to God. We must love God and serve him with all our hearts so that we can be worthy of his benefits in this life, and in heaven.
Prayer:
Dear God, I understand that you created heaven for people who are serious in their relationship with you. Therefore, I ask that you please help me to walk uprightly before you! Please give me the grace and strength to prioritize holiness and serve you well. Do not let me be distracted with the cares of the world so that I will not miss your eternal kingdom! Please empower me through your Holy Spirit to prioritize serving you above every other interest in my life. Let my services bring you comfort, and let it be well with me every day of my life. For in the name of Jesus Christ, I make my requests. Amen.
