April 25 – A Believer Must Be Disciplined

rule

Jeremiah ran into trouble for prophesying the mind of God. The government and religious leaders of Judah arrested him for cautioning them to desist from evil or face consequences. The scripture reported,

“Now it happened, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, “You will surely die! Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without an inhabitant’?” And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord” (Jeremiah 26:8-9).

Lesson:

Dishonest people hate confrontation, and they will prefer to dwell on their sins. Meanwhile, honest people like godly corrections, so they will prosper. Those who hate godly confrontations and would not budge for corrections are referred to as proud. They see things in their own eyes only, and they would rationalize sin to suit their selfish interest. God hates the proud. He dislikes people who would not give a second thought to correction, and make necessary improvements. Children of God must be careful not to fall into this category. We must not be rigid towards sin, but be correctable, and be willing to change whenever we are confronted with our sins. We must yield to God’s corrections and instructions in the bible. We must also yield whenever we are challenged through other mediums – whether through preaching or direct confrontation. Jehovah will honor us if we are flexible in his hands. His divine blessings will abide with people who behave like sheep in the hands of their master!

Prayer:

Dear God, please make me an honest and humble person who is bendable in your hands. Let me be correctable! Mortify my flesh to respond to your instructions in the bible. Also, enable me to yield to your instructions which may be passed through other media, so that I can prosper on earth and make it to heaven. Please give me the grace to keep serving you according to your expectations. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
