Jesus Christ originated from Israel, but the Israelites rejected him. They rejected his claim as the true messiah ordained by God to save the world. Meanwhile, Paul lamented for Jews as stated, “I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen” (Romans 9:1-5). However, despite loss of opportunity for Israelites due to their unbelief, there is still a silver lining in the sky, God will show mercy on Israel and save them. They will eventually believe Christ and be saved! The scripture stated, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” (Romans 9:15).

Lesson:

People who practice Judaism find it difficult to accept Jesus Christ as the true Messiah. Judaism which is mostly practiced by Jews have its root established in the Law of Moses. It promotes traditional mode of worship practiced in the Old Testament. Judaism support a theory that Messiah (Christ) would come from God to save the world. However, the religion observers rejected Jesus as the true Messiah. (Meanwhile, “faith in Jesus” is very important to “salvation”). However, despite Israelites’ unbelief, God will still grant them grace of salvation. Jehovah will open their minds to understand Jesus’ ministry in order to accept him as true Messiah – since his salvation is meant for both Jews and gentiles.

Prayer:

Dear God, please extend your grace of salvation to people who find it difficult to believe your Son Jesus Christ. Grant salvation opportunity to people who have lost it in the past. Help the skeptics understand the length and depth of Christ love, so that they accept him as their savior and be saved. Save people from sin and unbelief, and let those who are weak in faith become strong. Let all people enjoy your grace of salvation on earth to be qualified for heaven. For in the name of Jesus Christ I make my requests. Amen.
